Honeydew Honey

Honeydew is a substance produced by parasitic insects — in this case Metcalfa pruinosa, a Homoptera of the Flatidae family — that use their piercing mouthparts to penetrate the plant and suck its sap. The sugary component of the sap is then excreted as honeydew, which bees collect and bring back to the hive. For this reason, honeydew honey is also known as plant honey.
